I-House Welcome is hosted jointly by the International House and International Student and Scholar Services to help students adjust to life at the University of Tennessee. We suggest attending as many events as possible so that you can learn about your new home and all the resources available to you as a UT student! These events also provide you with a great opportunity to meet other new and returning students.
Required Events
- All international students are required to attend an International Student Orientation Session. Please sign up for an ISSS orientation session here.
- All new incoming international students are required to attend the International Student Conference on Friday, August 19, at 12pm in Student Union room 272. It begins with lunch and includes a series of presentations from a variety of campus leaders who share information about student resources and life in Knoxville. Students will learn about campus dining, health and wellness resources, campus and community engagement opportunities, safety recommendations and procedures– and more! The conference concludes with a resource fair of campus organizations and offices.
- Undergraduate international students are also required to attend the New Vols Experience orientation planned by the New Student Orientation Office. Find more information and register for a New Vols session here.
I-House Welcome Events
The International House plans a variety of activities designed to help new international students settle into their home in Knoxville. Students are encouraged to participate in these educational and cultural activities that take place prior to the beginning of classes. Events include social events, tours of the campus and library, shopping/grocery trips, and information sessions.

Campus Tours
Join current UT students on a tour of campus. Meet at the International House upstairs lobby (by the reception desk) at 9:00 am.

Wal-Mart Shuttles
Meet at the International House upstairs lobby (by the reception desk) at 11:00 am to ride in a van to Wal-Mart. Vans will leave at 1:30 pm and return to the International House at approximately 2:00 pm.
Sign-up is not required, but it is encouraged to guarantee transportation. If the sign-up is full, you may come to the International House when the vans are scheduled to leave and claim an unused seat. (Note: We cannot guarantee that any seats will be available, but they will be offered on a first come first served basis if there are any.)
