Graduate assistants keep the International House functioning on a daily basis. They help manage the facility five days a week and also serve as hosts to students from all over the world. Student assistants are the backbone of the International House. They not only help keep the facility operating five days a week but they also serve as hosts to students from all over the world as well as staff, faculty, and community members. Student assistants (SAs) function as both facility staff and programming staff, so they get a lot of experience with facilities operations as well as program planning. In addition, working at the I-House allows students to develop and improve their cross-cultural skills and to increase their cultural knowledge. UT guides serve the university by helping to welcome and transition international students during their first semester. They serve as peer advisors, resources, and friends for incoming international students. A UT guide must have an interest in meeting and assisting international students, desire to learn more about different cultures, and commitment to creating a welcoming environment for international students.
